Common Sense

It’s that little thing that tells you

You really shouldn’t be doing that

If the forecast calls for rain

It’s what tells you to take a hat

~

If the waters start rising

It’s what tells you to steer clear

When you’re on a winning team

It’s what tells you to stand and cheer

~

When the shortcut is too dark

In an unknown part of town

Common sense will tell you

Take the long way around

~

And yes, it should tell you

Fires don’t belong under trees

That just one glowing ember

Turns to fire with the slightest breeze

~

But, if it’s common sense your lacking

Keep your eyes peeled for signs

They’re perfect examples

Of sensible guidelines
