Still of Night

In the still of night

Much is stirring

The dog is snoring

While the cat is purring

Heat is filling

The house with warmth

While windowpanes complain

Air’s too cold from the north

Wooden floors creak

Under spectral feet

As one sleeps soundly

Beneath flannel sheets

Insomnia whispers

To another one,

“Tick-tock, Tick-tock …

Night is nearly done!”

Thanks for stopping by!
