A black cat purred at my feet
One October Eve on Mayflower Street
Circling ‘round my legs with her powderpuff tail
While I quickly sorted through the mail
The tag on her collar tinkled and chimed
The engraved name Roxy glinted and shined
Just as I was distracted by the flyer in my hand
For the missing person, Roxy Hanahan
I peered at the black cat purring at my feet
Then back at the photo on the mail sheet
It wasn’t her eyes that captivated me
But her pendant stating Roxy was all I could see
“Oh, dear Roxy, could it be?”
A determined “Meow” answered me
