As the weather grew
Darker and colder
The new buds of spring
In autumn were older
Golden
As an aged wedding ring
Smoke signals rose
Veiled and thin
Like the Farmer’s Almanac
That said, winter would begin
When the first snowflake
Delicate and white
Became an omen
Of frostbite
The farmer shivered
At the thought
He stoked the fire
Until red hot
A golden fluffball
Purred on his lap
The farmer and kitty
Shared a catnap
This piece was a reworking of a poem I wrote in sixth grade. I thought it would be fun to rework it. Below is the original written in my messy handwriting and with the teacher’s note!
