In the heat of summer
At the high noon hour
The creatures begin to creep
Up the plants they’ll soon devour
~
Sacrificing foliage
For their own selfish needs
Bite by bite
The caterpillars feed
~
Soon the first leaf is gone
Quickly followed by the next
They ravenously chew
On the plant that they have hexed
~
Eating until it’s stripped
Of all its juicy leaves
But hunger hasn’t ceased
For these insatiable thieves
