A solo bird
Calls into the air
Will another answer
Or does no one care;
Is his call
A welcome greeting
Or a dire warning
He keeps repeating;
From the branch
Of his spindly tree
He claws the bark
And flaps furiously;
As another dark bird
Flies too close
Solo bird maneuvers
And loudly croaks;
It’s clear this bird
Is happy alone
A gargoyle perched
In his skeletal home
