Do we really need a sign
This time of year
When the water flows free
And the current runs clear;
As the sun beats down
On this warm summer day
The children splash
Laugh and play;
In a pond free of ice
Warmed by the sun
No one has thoughts
Of winter skating fun;
Until that is
This unlikely sign
Blatantly states
And so rudely reminds;
Ice will soon
Cover the pond
But it may be too thin
To safely skate on
