Fire and Ash

You comfort me, yet you scare me. I’m drawn to your warmth and cautioned by your heat. Your vibrant colors are a masterpiece before my eyes. The dull ashes left behind, a reminder of the true cost of your beauty.

Contained and controlled, I appreciate you. Wild and merciless, I fear you. Your presence sustains life, and just as easily takes it away. Your smoke is a lifesaving signal, and a final warning signifying where you’ve been.

Fire you are; ashes you’ll be.
